Derby of Poland – Lech vs. Legia
Today is a big day! The day of great chance!
The day of
LECH POZNAŃ vs lEGIA WARSZAWA match
For it’s importance it’s called ‘the derby of Poland’. Lech hasn’t won in Warsaw for 13 years (but has won several times home since that time). This match triggers a lot of emotions and is always very important – both teams are always well-prepared even if the distance between them is 20 points. Today’s match is even more important, because both teams try to get 2nd place in league. Lech is willing to win as always, but this season it’s the closest to he victory like never since 1995!
Another thing adding such an importance to this match is that those two clubs hate each other – if you shouted “lEGIA” on the Old Market in Poznań you’d surely get hurt. This hasn’t come form nowhere. One – most extreme – example is that Legia being army club used to steal good footballers. When they were good – they suddenly received call to join the army and they had choice: to play in army football team Legia or to go to the army and be sure they wouldn’t come back to football again. This forces us to write legia always with a small letter, because it doesn’t deserve a capital letter.
Also the fact that citizens of Poznań (or wider western Poland) don’t like Warszawa and citizens of eastern Poland (that’s why I’ve written I live in Poznań which is currently in Poland in ‘about me’ page- I’m not planning secession because there’s no alternative and we’re one nation ultimately, but there’s a dislike). I’m not going to write about the reason of that aversion, because it’s a simple sport post. Let’s just say it’s because of historical and economical reasons.
Anyway – this is going to be a very interesting match and I hope Lech will crush it’s opponent and braek its bad patch on Łazienkowska. You can be sure I’ll post a note with a result.
